#FirstMan

The writer-director-star shot his feature debut in real New York clubs, cast a British kid he’d never met and bet his opening scene on a Rihanna song he didn’t have the rights to — now he’s in the Un Certain Regard lineup.

The 126-minute film, which premiered in the festival’s Un Certain Regard selection, casts Firstman as a washed-up party promoter who is forced to turn his life around when an unexpected visitor arrives.

The 'I Love LA' actor’s Cannes-bowing directorial debut trades the queer provocation of his past work for a cozy fable about unexpected parenthood.

The film seems to be the first to really juice up an audience at the festival, who gave it many big laughs.
