The Justice Department has opened an inquiry into Mr. Lewandowski. President Trump has not jumped to his defense.

Lewandowski, the first manager on Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, was a top aide to then-Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem before she was fired.

The Justice Department opened an investigation into Corey Lewandowski over allegations that he solicited payments in exchange for DHS contracts.

The Justice Department review follows an internal referral by the DHS inspector general into potential contracting fraud and financial conflicts during Noem’s tenure

The details of the inquiry remain unclear, but it is one of the rare instances in which a Trump ally or appointee has been investigated for potential wrongdoing during the president’s second term.

President Donald Trump says he has heard about the Department of Justice investigating Corey Lewandowski.
