The 81-year-old musician spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about the film Thursday night at the Songwriters Hall of Fame, where he accepted the Johnny Mercer Award, the organization's highest honor.

Hilson called her "Number One" collaborator "most inspiring," ahead of the late Michael Jackson.

The 2026 Songwriters Hall of Fame honorees include Taylor Swift, RAYE and more record setters.

"Tower of Song: Iconic Songwriters & Recordings,” an exhibit presented by the Grammy Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame, opens in May 2026.
