The Criterion Channel has chosen to adapt the classic episode “The Computer Wore Menace Shoes” into a limited series. Remarkably, despite only being announced this week, it appears that casting, filming, and postproduction have already wrapped. As you can see, this new series contains a lot of visual references to the episode. The series, tentatively titled The Prisoner, is set to premiere on the streaming service next month. It remains to be seen, however, if the series will stand the test of time. Even now, as Season 12 of The Simpsons remains beloved even by the most discerning of fans, little has been said or written about The Prisoner ahead of its release. Will the gamble pay off? Criterion is betting… it will!
