Fountain police arrested a man after an hourslong standoff Saturday morning.

Police were sent at about 2:15 a.m. to the 7300 block of Village Meadows Drive for reports of a person firing shots in the neighborhood. The person, identified by police as 46-year-old John Martin, allegedly refused to cooperate with officers.

This prompted “containment and the response of specialized units,” police said in a news release shared just after 3 p.m. Saturday.

“After unsuccessful negotiation attempts, officers executed warrants and used approved distraction and gas deployment techniques to safely take the suspect into custody,” the release said.

Martin was arrested on suspicion of attempted first-degree assault, disorderly conduct and “several other charges,” according to Fountain police. Nobody was injured.
