Henry Nowak's killer repeatedly lies to police about fatal stabbing of 18-year-old

Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood has announced an independent review into the murder of 18-year-old student Henry Nowak , to be led by former lord chancellor Alex Chalk KC.

Vickrum Digwa, 23, was jailed for life with a minimum of 21 years for stabbing Nowak to death in Southampton on 3 December 2025.

The killing sparked widespread outrage after police bodycam footage revealed Nowak was handcuffed as he lay dying, after Digwa falsely accused him of racial abuse.

Digwa's mother, Kiran Kaur, received a three-year prison sentence for assisting an offender by removing the knife used in the attack.

The Chalk review will examine missed opportunities regarding Digwa, the family's justice system experience, and police conduct following an IOPC investigation.
