Annoyed at myself here and hoping someone has beaten one of these. We had been using a SaaS tool on our small team for about a year, on the "annual, billed monthly" plan. A couple months back I decided we would switch to something else once the term was up. I went in to cancel and found out it had already auto-renewed us into another full 12 months, because the cancellation notice window closed 60 days before the renewal date and I did not think to look until I was already inside that window. So now we are on the hook for another year of a tool we are barely using. What made me actually start reading the fine print is the Adobe news. In March 2026 they settled with the DOJ for $150 million over basically this exact setup (search "FTC Adobe settlement"). Their "annual, paid monthly" plan looked month-to-month but was a 12-month commitment, and canceling early triggered a fee that ran about half of the remaining payments, buried where most people never saw it.…
