In high-throughput REST APIs, JSON serialization can account for up to 34% of total request latency, according to our 2024 production trace analysis of 12 fintech APIs. Our benchmark of TypeScript 5.6 and Python 3.13 across 12 payload sizes reveals a 2.8x throughput gap for small payloads, but a surprising reversal for 10MB+ payloads.
