Dozens of local restaurants, breweries, coffeeshops and other food businesses offered free meals or donated proceeds to Silver Rail Elementary School families, teachers and staff to show solidarity after a teen gunman killed three children and a teacher inside the school on Thursday, Oct. 15.

Steve Augustyn, Silver Moon Brewing co-owner, has a fourth-grade boy who attends Silver Rail, and two other young boys who attended the school.

“I was definitely personally affected by the events the other day,” Augustyn said. “We’re just doing the best we can, taking it day by day, like I’m sure most are doing right now.”

He posted on social media about a Wednesday fundraiser at the brewery to support the families who have experienced loss from the Silver Rail tragedy.…
