Teyana Taylor is making it clear that her vision for Essence Fest 2026 isn't about reinventing the event—it's about reconnecting it with the energy that made it a cultural institution in the first place. Speaking at a press conference inside New Orleans' Caesars Superdome, the newly appointed Essence Fest chief curator outlined her approach to the festival's next chapter. Joined by Coco Gilbert, co-founder of her creative collective The Aunties, Taylor said the goal is to build on the event's foundation rather than replace it. “We didn’t come here to change nothing,” Taylor said, per NOLA.com . “We’re coming here to elevate and add.” The singer, actress, choreographer, and recent Academy Award nominee was officially named chief curator in March, giving her and The Aunties responsibility for shaping the festival experience across both the Superdome concerts and the programming at the Ernest N.
