I’m two weeks into a new job and have learned—very casually through the grapevine, as if it’s no big deal—that travel is required. I was shocked, as it wasn’t in the JD, the contract, nor did anyone interviewing me allude to this, even vaguely.
I already have two international trips (~4 days each) next year, plus one domestic one. I’m sure there will be more.
I brought it up to my manager to let her know that I am coming up to speed and slowly learning this is an important piece of the job, but wasn’t aware and that the cadence of trips could be challenging to my family (two toddlers, husband can’t take time off outside his employers schedule or WFH). Her reaction was neutral. Did not acknowledge that this was undisclosed, but did share that when she tells me to travel, it’s important to be there in-person.
Am I right to be in “WTF?” mode right now? Has anyone else experienced this?
