Colorado Springs police are looking for several suspects after an attempted carjacking resulted in shots fired early Monday, law enforcement officials said.

Officers responded to a 12:45 a.m. call about an attempted carjacking in a convenience store parking lot in the 3000 block of North Chestnut Street. The caller said several armed suspects attempted to take his vehicle, police said.

A store employee intervened, distracting the suspects long enough for the intended victim to get into his car and drive off. He told police that he heard at least one shot as he drove away.

The suspects were gone when officers arrived, but they found live rounds and spent shell casings on the ground, as well as a bullet hole in the front window of the store.

Two additional people told police that one of the suspects had threatened them with a gun prior to the carjacking attempt.

No injuries were reported, and no arrests were announced.
