Boston Dynamics can’t rely on orders walking in the door forever, CFO Amanda McMaster said at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit , held Oct. 12-14 in Santa Barbara. “Inbound demand at some point dries up,” she told Fortune’s Ellie Austin. “You need a proactive sales motion.”

McMaster has been CFO for six years and ran the company as interim CEO from February, when Robert Playter stepped down , until former Amazon executive Rohit Prasad took over on Oct. 7. She helped build the company’s operational systems, sales leadership and service infrastructure in its early commercial years, Fortune reported.

Spot pays the bills today

Spot, the four-legged robot, costs about $100,000 for the base platform and up to $300,000 depending on payloads, McMaster said. When Boston Dynamics started selling it in June 2020, the price was $74,500, The Verge reported.…
