Summit County, Utah , authorities announced that serial killer Ted Bundy has been linked to another unsolved murder from the 1970s.

Law enforcement officials are scheduled to disclose details of the investigation and formally close the cold case at a news conference on Tuesday.

While authorities have not yet publicly named the victim, the 1974 death of 17-year-old Melissa Ann Smith has long remained an open case in the area.

The breakthrough follows the April confirmation that Bundy killed Laura Ann Aime in 1974, as advancing DNA technology continues to identify his victims.

Bundy murdered at least 30 women and girls across multiple states before he was executed in Florida in 1989.
