Having a problem with my dad's old econotig. Been stick welding with it for a few months and its horrible. Constantly sticks the rod while running stringers. I have extreme difficulty even getting a rod to arc about every 5 rods. Have just been fighting it the whole time, when it does run it runs them well but thats far and few between. Ended up grabbing a bottle of argon finally and went to try some tig today, instantly balled my tungsten. Its a foot pedal on flat plate, nothing crazy. Metal is clean, argon is flowing 2%thoriated, flipped my negative/positive. Couldn't even get a puddle to form on max amps. Metal is a little thick for this welder 1/4" & 3/8" but that really shouldn't matter. Kinda stumped here hoping I forgot something simple and im not going to have to take it to a shop.
