I just picked up this used Ajazz AKC087. It came as a barebones kit and the design was too interesting to ignore.
A completely open case that’s made up of four layers of steel. No foams, no gaskets, no damping of any kind. It seems like a really gimmicky design, but IRL it’s an incredibly charming board.
Also loud.
After running a set of Everglide Jade Moyu Black tactiles (wanted to absolutely send it with the sound at first) I swapped them for Epomaker Creamy Jade linears and ended up building a banger. The sound really is full on, but the creamy smooth switches with their subdued bottom out complement the unyielding nature of the case and have a lovely thock and thunk. I like the raw honesty of the sound and the typing experience is so very satisfying.
Board: Ajazz AKC087
Caps: AliExpress “Japanese Dye Subbed”
Switches: Epomaker Creamy Jade
Stabs: original plate-mount (re-lubed)
