Cutting already-installed baseboards with an oscillating multi-tool: how to get a perfectly straight 90° cut?

Hi everyone,

I need to cut some baseboards that are already installed, and I’m using an oscillating multi-tool to avoid having to remove them. My problem is that I can never seem to get a truly straight 90° cut. The blade drifts, the cut ends up slightly angled, and it’s noticeable once the job is done.

Do you have any techniques for keeping the blade perfectly perpendicular? For example, using a guide, a carpenter’s square held in place with a clamp, a wooden block, or perhaps a specific type of blade?

Or is it ultimately easier to just remove the baseboard and cut it with a miter saw to ensure a perfect angle?

Thanks in advance for your advice!
