Lewis Hamilton was looking for a move away from McLaren in 2012 (PA Wire)

Christian Horner has revealed in his new memoir that Lewis Hamilton held a secret meeting to discuss joining Red Bull in 2012.

The meeting took place at designer Adrian Newey's home near Ascot, where Hamilton named Red Bull as his preferred destination when leaving McLaren.

The potential move collapsed due to staggering financial demands and concerns over how Hamilton's arrival would affect Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton subsequently signed for Mercedes following an approach from Niki Lauda, going on to win six World Drivers' Championships with the team.

The British driver spent 12 years with Mercedes before agreeing to join Ferrari for the 2025 F1 season.
