Yours truly is an outlier, but I see the continuing Trump threat display and the movement of military assets to the Middle East as an admission of weakness. IMHO the Iranians can smell the underlying fear. The eleventh-hour outreach by Vance would never have happened if the US was still not trying to find a way out.

That does not mean Trump will in the end not attack. Frightened stupid people can do really stupid things. But his repeated last minute TACOs on strikes that military experts have again and again seen as imminent based not just on force movements but gossip from well-placed contacts, says even the desperate-to-be-ever-dominating Trump recognizes that massive salvos on civilian targets in Iran would deliver a cataclysmic defeat.
