Will cameras finally embrace open source?

I am seeing lots of firmware hacks recently due to AI improvements. This fundamentally breaks some of the software limitations imposed by manufactures into their products in order to sell the balance between performance and positioning.

I assume the majority of the market will take this as a threat rather than an opportunity and manufacturers mostly tend to lock in their firmwares with digital signatures and regulations towards criminalizing firmware hacks.

However, I think market and society in late 2020's has become way different than those of early 2000's where online communities and user generated content was inexistent. It seems to me that there is a huge an opportunity to do business in a very different way if someone approaches the photography market as Linux did with OS.

So my topic here is to discuss how do you see camera manufacturers and individual projects embracing open source and community co-creation to deliver better customization and value?
