Hello. I’ve started playing bass again after quite a long time and decided to have a jam session with some people I know. They said it was improv and that if I knew the minor and harmonic minor scales I would be fine.

I know the scales but what do they mean by applying this to a jam session? It’s my first one so I’m sorry if it’s a dumb question.
