The incident occurred in Beekse Bergen Safari Park (AFP/Getty)
A female zookeeper who worked at Beekse Bergen Safari Park in the Netherlands for nearly 40 years has died following a leopard attack.
The victim suffered severe head and neck injuries on Saturday inside an enclosure containing two male Persian leopards, and passed away on Tuesday.
An investigation is underway to determine why she was inside the enclosure, as staff are normally prohibited from being in the same space as predators.
The woman managed to alert colleagues using her walkie-talkie before undergoing emergency surgery, but her condition worsened critically over the weekend.
Her death follows a separate recent incident in Yorkshire, England, where a man was mauled to death after entering a tiger enclosure.
