Tony at The Arcade Blogger has posted a follow-up on an Atari Steeplechase cabinet he pulled out of a condemned building in France during a group rescue trip with other arcade collectors. The machine is the Atari Europe version, which uses a different cabinet shape than the more angular USA release.
Tony cleaned it up and started work, then sold it after taking on too many projects. The cabinet passed through three owners, each doing a little more to get it running. It ended up with Jon Turner of Pixel Busters arcade in Stoke on Trent in the UK, who finished the restoration and put it on the arcade floor.
Jon’s video walks through the work he did and ends with a tour of Pixel Busters. Steeplechase is a multiplayer game, so a public arcade suits it. At a recent UKVAC meet-up, it was the centerpiece of a weekend competition with a trophy, and it stayed busy the whole time.
