Is Kafka still your default choice for event streaming?

I have seen quite a few Kafka vs. RabbitMQ comparisons lately, and I've noticed streaming is still often associated primarily with Kafka, even though RabbitMQ also supports persistent streams.

I work with CloudAMQP, where we provide managed RabbitMQ and LavinMQ services, and I'm curious how developers are approaching streaming in production.

For those building event-driven applications, what makes you choose Kafka over RabbitMQ Streams or other streaming-capable brokers?

Is it performance, scalability, ecosystem, operational complexity, or something else?

If you were starting a new streaming application today, would you make the same choice?

I'd be interested in hearing about the trade-offs you've encountered, especially from developers running streaming workloads at scale.
