Shower door height extension

Reading 0:00
15s threshold

I just moved in to a new house and the shower enclosure is nice, but the hinged frameless shower door is a bit shorter than I would like, especially since I want to raise the shower head height. Apparently they don't make extension panels that slip on the top.

I'm planning on getting some aluminum H channel and clear caulking that on the door and adding a 3" tall acrylic or polycarbonate panel on top. I'll polish the edges so it won't look bad. Any reason not to do this? There will still be several inches open above the door for steam to escape.
