Konnect, from developer mixelpixx on GitHub, is a native KiCad 10 plugin that lets Claude or another LLM work on schematics and boards through the Model Context Protocol. It ships as a single Rust binary, 20 to 25 MB installed from a roughly 9 MB download, with nothing else to install or version-match.
It exposes 228 tools across 21 on-demand toolsets: schematic capture, PCB layout and routing, ERC and DRC, design-review audits, JLCPCB part search, and manufacturing export. Rather than listing all of them to the model at once, which would cost about 23K tokens, the router loads a starter kit of about 2K tokens and pulls in toolsets as needed.
Konnect is the successor to KiCAD-MCP-Server, a Python and TypeScript project. The rewrite drops the SWIG bindings KiCad is deprecating and talks to KiCad 10 over the official IPC API, protobuf over NNG, so edits integrate with KiCad’s own undo and redo. Schematic files are edited with an S-expression engine using atomic writes and UUID preservation.…
