I flew out of the new terminal at Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR), an airport that has been part of my life since my very first flight in 1987. As I wrote last week in my farewell to the old terminal , my first flight was from Burbank to Seattle on Alaska Airlines. My final arrival at the old building brought me back from Seattle on Alaska, a fitting conclusion to nearly four decades of departures and returns.

Burbank is only about 15 minutes from my home. That convenience, along with the old terminal’s simplicity, made it an airport I have always appreciated, as ugly and threadbare as it was.…
