There is a sweet-spot for maximum earnings (Reuters)
Office for National Statistics data reveals that UK workers aged 40 to 49 are in the highest earning band with an average full-time salary of £54,591.
Workers aged 50 to 59 represent the second highest earning group at £53,349, slightly ahead of 30 to 39-year-olds who average £48,421.
The overall average full-time salary across all age groups in the UK stands at £48,512, though raw figures can be influenced by very high earners pulling the overall figures up.
Young adults aged 18 to 21 have the lowest average earnings at £24,394, but experience the largest relative salary jump when moving into the 22 to 29 age band at £35,760.
Earnings peak in middle age as workers actively seek promotions, role changes, and greater responsibility before shifting priorities closer to retirement.
