Let’s spare a thought for the children of the future, trying to settle down for cozy bedtime stories when there’s micro-plastics clogging their brains, smog clouding their windows, and raging storms swallowing up their cities. Will they recognize the pristine landscapes of classic children’s fiction — Winnie the Pooh ’s idyllic Hundred Acre Wood or The Little Mermaid ’s clear blue sea? Maybe they’d appreciate something more… relatably dystopian? A toxic wind blowing through the willows, perhaps. Or Mowgli walking through a burning jungle.
