Surfers checking the waves around Point Mugu State Beach in Ventura County got far more action than they bargained for when a live, unexploded military rocket was discovered resting on the shoreline over the weekend. The popular state park is widely celebrated for its heavy shorebreak and high-performance, barreling sandbars. However, the coastline was quickly cleared out after local authorities realized the extreme hazard sitting on the public sand – a Super Bazooka. The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was immediately dispatched to the scene to inspect the heavily corroded metallic device. Technicians quickly determined that the volatile explosive was still live, making it far too dangerous to transport. So, they blew it up right there.
