I second the Saturday letter by Brittany Sheehan regarding Victor Joecks’ recent column regarding feminism and the Cornell case.
Feminism isn’t the problem in today’s culture of sexual liberation. Once again, it’s men taking advantage of women’s exploration of the freedom that men have always enjoyed. Men have held women to a different standard since time immemorial. It’s OK if I do it, but it’s not OK for you.
Mr. Joecks concluded his column by writing, “Sex should be between one man and one woman for one lifetime.” Ideally, that would be nice. Today, that is rare and simply unrealistic.
If women are allowed the same sexual freedom that men enjoy, then why are they the object of ridicule and blamed when men don’t behave themselves? If the woman in question was behaving indiscreetly, why did not one man protect her from the violent assault that followed? Why did the group text go out inviting others to partake in the crime?…
