My mother always told me that the best cotton sheets are an investment I would not regret. She is right (as always)—the unfussy fabric is anything but one-note. Depending on the weave, makeup, and finishing technique of the cotton fibers (which I explain later on in this story), I can rotate my bedding from heavyweight brushed flannels that keep me cozy during Cleveland winters to airy percales with a crisp, matte finish for the summertime. No matter your preference, the material is naturally breathable, adapting to different types of sleepers. (My husband sleeps hot and I am always cold, but we never disagree about bedding when cotton sheets are involved.)
