California is about to get its first real taste of monsoon season, and if you're wondering if the name means what it sounds like, temper your expectations. Unlike the heavy rains associated with more tropical climates, our monsoon season is more of a highly-sticky-with-chance-of-rain-and-thunder-situation. As the rainy season ramps up in Central America, where many areas can see daily rain showers and storm activity, we here in California begin to experience a pattern that can include high humidity, light precipitation, thunderstorms, and — hopefully — increased south swells. This weekend, forecasters are tracking the first monsoon-driven thunderstorms of 2026, with the NWS projecting activity starting Sunday and continuing through Monday. In NorCal, Monterey, San Benito, Santa Cruz, and Santa Clara counties are most likely to see storms along with parts of the East Bay.…
