A groundbreaking tool, combining a finger-prick blood test with an online brain assessment, can estimate individual Alzheimer’s risk , new research suggests.
Published in Nature Communications, the study involved 174 participants who self-administered the test at home, sending samples back.
It measured blood biomarkers p-tau217 and GFAP, linked to Alzheimer’s and general brain decline, alongside online cognitive assessments.
Researchers found this combined approach helps identify a person's likelihood of Alzheimer's , prioritising for further testing, treatment, and support.
Although dementia is often a difficult topic to discuss, understanding risk factors can help people make informed choices to potentially reduce their chances of developing the condition.
