Short answer: Azure Service Bus is the better fit when a failed cleanup job needs granular retry handling and message deferral. AWS SQS is usually the easier choice when the worker already lives in AWS and native service integration matters more than retry controls. For either one, the expensive part is rarely the retry statement in code. It is the data you retain while messages wait, fail, and eventually move to a dead-letter path.

For an e-commerce cleanup task, I would trigger a short scheduler request that places work on a queue, then let a worker consume it. That keeps the web request out of the long-running path and makes delivery guarantees visible. A cron run has a 900-second execution limit, so a cleanup that can exceed that boundary belongs behind a queue rather than inside the scheduled request.
