Advice/Troubleshooting Remote Photography Repository

Need Help

I'm not sure if this is the right subreddit for this, but I see lots of discussions on NFS, SMB, etc. so I figured this would be the right community to ask! Also, full disclosure, I've made a [nearly] identical post on r/homelab, but I want to get as much advice as possible so I figured I'd ask here too. Unfortunately crossposts are not allowed, so I had to make two separate posts.

I'm trying to set up my workflow such that I download my .TIF film scans (i.e. 100MB+ per image) to my PC, since it has plenty of storage available, and then have a network mount on my laptop for the directory containing the images. Once I do that, I'd be able to work on Darktable on my laptop using the images stored on my PC. Only issue is... both NSF and SMB are unbearably slow.…
