A home at the Rock Arbor Villa Mobile Home Park off NE Purcell Boulevard in northeast Bend burned Sunday evening. Damage to the home and contents is estimated at $50,000.

The resident, who called 911, was able to safety evacuate. Two cats died in the fire.

Bend Fire & Rescue arrived to find the home engulfed in fire. Crews knocked down the blaze within minutes and prevented it from spreading to other homes.

Smoke alarms alerted the resident to the fire. The Red Cross is assisting the resident with housing and other resources.

Investigators determined that the fire started behind the wall where the fireplace flue was improperly connected. Bend Fire & Rescue reminded people to make sure their smoke alarms are working, and to have stoves and furnaces inspected.
