An evening ocean swim turned into a total nightmare at Marina Vallarta beach, right outside the Marriott Puerto Vallarta Resort & Spa, when a 28-year-old was tragically attacked and killed by an American crocodile.

While floating in the resort pool, a couple from San Clemente, California, heard the screams and risked their lives trying to save the victim. The couple left the pool, then bolted down to the shore and into the water to try and help.

Sadly, it was too late.

The victim is only being identified – as of now – as a 28-year-old from Mexico who was in Puerto Vallarta for work. The American couple, who were on vacation to celebrate their teenage daughter’s high school graduation, have spoken about the incident.

“I was in the water up to my waist, and he was maybe 20 feet away,” recalled San Clemente’s Chris Bury. “I threw the life preserver, and he was in shock. He was flailing. Long story short, I hopped on the kayak, and by the time I got to him, it drug him under. And that was it.…
