Hey everyone, I’m 27 years old, North African expat, coming from another non-CS engineering background. It took me longer than expected to finally reach this point financially and academically, especially financially as I am my own and only fall net. I recently got accepted into a Data Science master’s program at an established Austrian university, and I’m trying to get a realistic idea of the average age of students in programs like this. But now that I did, I can’t help feeling anxious about being “too old” to start over in data science and eventually become a junior while others my age already have years of experience, taken that I have no prior professional coding experience. However, I do have experience in my current engineering field. I know 27 is not objectively old, but emotionally it’s hard not to compare myself to people who started CS earlier or already work in industry. So I wanted to ask: Did anyone else start later and still manage to build a good career afterward?…
