I recently had an interview where I felt like I had to justify my entire career path rather than talk about my experience and transferable skills… it felt so so off.

When I answered the phone, the interviewer immediately said, “Wow, you sound tired.” That’s how this conversation started!! Meanwhile that is what my voice sounds like and I was not in fact tired.. it’s like I already had to justify why I sounded tired?

Throughout the interview, I felt like I had to defend myself..my job history is long and I’ve had the opportunity to work within my country and also travel and work abroad. But this clearly didn’t sit well with her and she asked me a ton of personal questions.. starting with why I chose to travel in the first place along side with why I came back. Which I can understand sounds innocent but her tone was very condescending

She also mentioned the high staff turnover rate.. and how everyone is new there and I’d have to train with her. She offered me a second interview..…
