A Strip megaresort is changing how cards are dealt at its poker tables amid growing concerns about cheating in live games.
The Venetian hotel-casino has become the first major Strip casino to adopt slide dealing, joining South Point hotel-casino as the second Las Vegas poker room to move away from traditional pitch dealing. The method keeps cards closer to the felt, making it harder for opponents or hidden cameras to capture players’ hole cards.
The switch follows several high-profile cheating scandals that have rattled the poker world. According to PlayUSA, MGM Resorts International is also exploring a potential systemwide adoption of slide dealing across its poker operations.
Poker officials have raised concerns about the costs of retraining dealers and the possibility of slowing games, though prominent pros including Daniel Negreanu have backed the change.
The Venetian will host the $5,000 WPT Venetian Las Vegas Fall Championship beginning Nov. 5.
