A Florida father of two has died after drowning while trying to save a seagull from his fishing line.

William “Stone” Romberg, a beach hospitality manager who worked in Florida’s panhandle, was killed on Sunday as he swam out to untangle the bird from his lure after casting it near an inlet in the Panama City Beach area.

The Bay County Sheriff’s Office shared more about Romberg’s death with local outlet WJHG , noting that he had been fishing with friends at the time. When he went to rescue the bird, his friends lost sight of him before spotting him tangled in the fishing line and attempting to perform CPR.
