From underwater speakers to growing super-corals, scientists battle to save reefs around the world.

Nearly half of coral species are at risk of extinction and the currently developing super El Niño will further warm an ocean already heated by continuing climate change. So researchers are turning to unorthodox ideas to help new corals to settle, grow and thrive. In the Caribbean, underwater speakers serenade tiny larvae, while in Thailand a low-tech coral hotel raises resilient youngsters.
