I hadn’t heard much about the Before trilogy until there was an HMV Criterion sale a while back, and I was intrigued (may have even seen stuff about it here), but the set had sold out everywhere by then. I was idly checking stock and found one in my local HMV. Ended up watching Before Sunrise in the late afternoon, and when my evening plans fell through I watched Before Sunset. Which obviously led to me watching Before Midnight. What a remarkable trilogy of films, and it made me wonder… what would I have thought about them if I’d seen them at the time, especially seeing Sunrise when I’d have been 20. I’m not sure I’d have enjoyed it as much then, it and the rest of them being so talky, but I some think I’d have disliked it. I really do wonder what affect it’d have had on my younger self though, and I’m rather jealous of those of you who experienced these snapshots of Jesse and Céline’s life essentially in real time.…
