India's Nitish Kumar Reddy and teammate Tilak Varma celebrate after winning the second T20 cricket international between New Zealand and India in Christchurch (AP)
India has beaten New Zealand by 4 wickets after eclipsing the Black Caps’ 180-run total at Hagley Oval in Christchurch.
New Zealand’s respectable total was mostly made up of runs by Glenn Phillips (70) and emerging talent Bevon Jacobs (58), who has a chance to secure his position in the Black Caps’ batting order.
But India’s batters responded, with Tilak Varma and Nitish Kumar Reddy seeing out the innings not out for 51 and 26 runs, respectively.
Spinner Mitchell Santner had the best of the bowling for the Black Caps, felling four wickets, but it was not enough to see off a strong India team.
During the first T20I, India’s batters also came to the rescue, guiding the side past a 226-run target to establish their first win in what is now a 2-0 lead in the five-test series.
