A signed original 1988 photograph of Michael Jordan’s legendary dunk that turned him into a global icon — is up for auction.

On February 6, 1988, Chicago Bulls team photographer Bill Smith captured a 24-year-old Jordan’s iconic free-throw line slam dunk during the NBA Slam Dunk Contest at Chicago Stadium.

In the image, Smith captured Jordan soaring four feet above the court, launching himself from the free-throw line and frozen mid-flight. Wearing his Air Jordan 3s — which featuring the now-famous Jumpman logo — the basketball legend appears almost rocket-propelled, palming the ball in one hand and pumping his other arm as he rises towards the basket.

Smith’s photograph is now considered one of the most iconic sports photographs in history.…
