The author of one of the greatest guitar riffs of all time was later murdered by a heavy metal fan.

'Dimebag' Darrell Abbott created the No. 8 greatest guitar riff of all time, according to Guitar World , after he and brother Vinnie Paul spawned Pantera and eventually laid down Walk.

" Walk was ultimately less thrashy and saw the band embracing more groove-driven doctrines of heaviness – inspiring a whole new wave of sonic aggression," Guitar World wrote. "The riff, as simple as it sounds, could easily be one of metal’s most misconstrued, often incorrectly tabbed without those crucial first fret bends."
