AI providers and proponents received a harsh dose of reality, with the latest information showing the industry is facing a whopping $4.9 trillion shortfall.

AI proponents have long touted the demand for AI services as the necessary key to profitability, as well as the overall survival of the industry. Unfortunately, it seems the demand may not match the amount of money being spent on AI infrastructure, according to Gartner.

“In 2026, AI providers are expected to spend nearly $1 trillion on AI infrastructure, and are forecast to invest an additional $6 trillion between 2027 and 2030,” said Will Sommer , Sr Director Analyst at Gartner.…
