What should an AI assistant do when your clicks disagree with your goals?

Imagine telling an AI assistant that you want to spend less time on outrage and more time learning something useful. Then, on a tired evening, you keep clicking the arguments it shows you.

If it learns mainly from those clicks, it could give you more of something you explicitly wanted less of. If it ignores your behavior and keeps redirecting you, it could start to feel patronizing. Both versions might claim to understand your preferences.

I'd want it to ask which goal should guide its suggestions, explain why it is recommending something, and let me change that agreement. It should also be possible to enjoy a distraction without teaching the assistant that distraction is my new goal.

Where would you draw the line between an assistant supporting a choice you made earlier and one deciding what is good for you? Would you want a reminder when your behavior drifts from your stated goal, or would that make an everyday tool feel too intrusive?
