We’re considering naming our son Georg, but he may grow up in an international setting. I’d love to hear from German-speaking Georgs who live abroad about their experiences.
What do people usually call you? Do they try the German pronunciation, say something like “Gay-org,” or simply use the local version, such as George in English or Georges in French? Do people sometimes assume Georg is a misspelling?
Our main concern is whether having your name pronounced differently depending on the language feels natural or becomes frustrating. Do you find yourself correcting people often? Does constantly explaining “It’s spelled like George without the final ‘e’” get annoying?
We love the name, but would really appreciate hearing what it’s like to live with it internationally—and whether you’re happy your parents chose it.
